Farm News

Welcome to our "Farm News" page--it's where we keep you posted about farm happenings and events and recap the year's farm activities.

We took the past two growing seasons off from planting, as our regular jobs have kept us very busy. Instead of tending vegetables, we decided to work on other major farm projects and we are now in the process of finishing the redesign of our garden and courtyard, while having finished the painting of the barns, garden shed and most of the house, as well as having replaced several fences last year.

We had a new four-legged creature in our barn during the hot spell last summer -- a sweet little frog who took a liking to our curled up hoses above the water buckets! He had his favorite spot -- nestled in between the bristles of our bucket brush! He let me pick him up and seemed to be very comfortable with all the activity around him. We were very careful when we unwrapped the hoses, though! We doubt he'll be back, but we keep looking.

Our barn has turned into a rehabilitation site for two of our horses who had colic surgery this year. Dandy had his surgery in March and Rascal in June. The odds of having two horses within three months of each other having major surgery are astronomical! They are good patients and are doing well. Needing to treat them and tend to their needs creates quite a special bond between us. Even though it is an emotional roller coaster ride, the time and effort are well worth it! Colic is the major cause of death in horses, so we are thankful that their condition could be treated with surgery. Many horses are not so fortunate.

We hope you will have a chance to visit us soon!

Dottie and Mike
